Weather History gives you historical weather for any point on Earth back to 1981: daily and monthly temperature, rainfall, humidity, wind and sunshine, plus long-term climate normals and heating and cooling degree days.
Values come from a global satellite and weather-model record, so every place gets a complete, consistent series even where there is no weather station. Each value covers an area about 50 km across, which makes it right for comparing seasons, years and places rather than reading a single street's thermometer.
What you can do
- daily_history — day-by-day historical weather for up to a year at a time, with a summary of the hottest, coldest and wettest days
- monthly_history — monthly and annual weather history across up to 30 years
- degree_days — heating degree days and cooling degree days by month, with bases you choose
- climate_normals — the typical weather for each month (2001–2020 climate normals)
Who it's for
Energy managers and building engineers tracking heating demand, farmers and growers, insurers and claims handlers checking what the weather did on a date, researchers, travellers and anyone comparing climates.
How to use it
- Pass a location (place name, UK postcode or "lat, lon") or latitude and longitude to any skill
- Use daily_history with start_date and end_date to see what the weather did on specific days
- Use monthly_history with start_year and end_year to compare years and spot trends
- Use degree_days for heating and cooling demand; the default bases are 15.5°C for heating and 18°C for cooling
- Use climate_normals to see what a month is usually like and compare it with the history
Getting started
Call climate_normals with a city name to see its typical year, then monthly_history for recent years to see how they compare.
