Useful workflows

Company Lookup: search_companies (country UK), company_profile and filing_history retrieve register records and recent filing metadata.
Company Lookup: beneficial_owners, charges and insolvency retrieve specific register records. Officer queries require a valid upstream officer identifier; profile results currently do not include those identifiers.
Company Lookup: financial_data attempts accounts extraction when suitable documents are available. It is a separate paid action, outside the free example below.
Construction Manager: verify_company can use Companies House for a UK registration lookup and may use OpenCorporates instead. Check the returned source. This page does not attribute its other actions to Companies House.

Connection and permissions

The upstream API requires authentication. ToolRouter can use its configured service access; the example below worked through the hosted MCP without supplying a separate Companies House key. For your own access, Company Lookup uses companies_house_api_key and Construction Manager uses companies_house. Both can use the server Companies House key when configured. Save private keys in provider settings, never in a chat prompt.

Pricing basis

company_profile and filing_history are listed as free and both completed through a zero-credit ToolRouter MCP session on 26 September 2026. No paid account extraction was run. financial_data is separately priced; check the tool before running it. Your assistant plan and any separate services have their own costs.

Evidence limits

Companies House covers the UK register. Company Lookup uses other sources for US, LEI and VAT queries; those actions are not powered by Companies House.
Records describe what was filed. Filing metadata is not the document contents or a complete financial assessment. Pagination and source availability can limit returned records.
For a one-off manual check, the official register may be simpler. A direct MCP connector is another option if you only need Companies House. ToolRouter is useful when you want these calls alongside other tools in the same assistant.

For Claude Code, use the separate Claude Code guide with https://api.toolrouter.com/mcp. A successful MCP test in another client does not verify your Claude session.
Copy the company-research request below. Ask your assistant to discover company-lookup, then run the two named free skills. Do not replace a failed tool call with a guessed answer.
Check the company number, source and returned fields. If a company is not found, search by its registered name and confirm the matching number. If sign-in has expired, reconnect the connector; if source access is unavailable, check provider settings or use the official register.

Observed 2026-09-26.

Company number: 00445790. Registered name: TESCO PLC. Returned status: active.
The profile response returned 11 active officers. This is the returned count, not a separate verification of every appointment.
The latest of three returned filing records was SH03 dated 16 September 2026: capital-return-purchase-own-shares.
company_type was returned as unknown. The example preserves that gap instead of filling it from the company name.
A request for company 00000000 returned a not-found error. Search by registered name to recover; do not interpret an error as a company-status result.

Executed through ToolRouter MCP in Codex and repeated in Claude Code with a temporary Bearer key. This verifies the API-key route in Claude Code, not Claude chat sign-in, account extraction, full due diligence or current data after the observation date. Does an active company status mean the business is safe to use?

No. Registration status does not establish competence, solvency, creditworthiness or suitability. Check the underlying records and any other evidence your decision requires.
