How to scrape TikTok and Instagram with Claude

To scrape TikTok or Instagram with Claude, connect ToolRouter as a custom connector, then ask Claude for a handle's profile and recent posts. Claude calls Social Profiles for follower counts and Social Media Content for the latest videos, each with views, likes, comments and shares. No scraper to host, no proxies and no TikTok or Meta developer account.
Claude cannot read TikTok or Instagram on its own: its web fetch gets a login wall or an empty JavaScript shell. The tools below return the data as JSON that Claude can sort, chart and summarise.

A real run: Duolingo on TikTok
We ran this on 5 October 2026. The prompt:
Use ToolRouter. Get the TikTok profile for duolingo, then its latest videos.

leave out pinned videos, and tell me which formats drive comments.get_tiktok_profile returned 18.2 million followers, 502.6 million likes and 1,194 videos. get_tiktok_videos returned the 10 most recent videos, one of them pinned. The nine unpinned ones:

Median views across the nine: 342,353. The two posts with a direct ask in the caption ("wrong answers only", "wya?") drew 17,356 and 41,783 comments, far more than videos with twice the views. That is the kind of pattern you get from the numbers and would miss by scrolling the feed. Figures are live counts at the time of the call; check the account for current numbers.

Prompts that work
- Creator vetting: "Get the TikTok profile and latest videos for @handle. Work out median views and engagement rate (likes plus comments divided by views) and flag big swings between posts."
- Competitor audit: "Pull the latest Instagram reels for these three brands and group them by hook and format. Rank by views."
- Audience language: "Read the comments on this TikTok and list the five most repeated questions in the commenters' own words."
- Trend check: "Search TikTok for the hashtag booktok and give me the top videos from the last week with view counts."

Limits
- Public content only. Private accounts, deleted posts and region-locked videos come back empty or as an error.
- Feeds return a page of recent items. TikTok returned 10 videos per call in our run. The raw response for those 10 is large, so ask for one handle at a time.
- Handles go without the @. Facebook, LinkedIn and Pinterest skills take full URLs instead of handles.
- Counts move. Views and likes are live at call time. Record when you pulled them.
- Data access is not a licence to republish. Reading a public post does not grant rights to reuse its video or images.
