Grok Bot Plugins vs Grok Connectors: What Is Different?

Grok Bot and Grok on grok.com are different products with different MCP surfaces. ToolRouter has a verified custom connector path on grok.com. Grok Bot availability varies by account and direct acceptance has not been completed in a signed-in account.

Use grok.com/connectors, create a custom connector, and enter https://api.toolrouter.com/mcp. Follow the Grok connector guide for the current steps.

Grok Bot#

xAI documents plugins, MCP servers, shared Cursor authentication, and team MCP policy for Grok Bot. The exact custom-server surface can vary by account and release, so do not treat a visible menu or an installed label as acceptance proof.

Follow the Grok Bot setup guide. Successful setup requires ToolRouter to appear, authentication to succeed, discover to return a catalog result, use_tool to finish a real free call, and the result to appear in the Bot conversation.

If the custom-server surface is unavailable, use Grok Build, the xAI API, or the grok.com connector.
