How to Explore an Artist's Discography with Claude
Use Claude and ToolRouter to explore an artist's full discography with edition details and collector values.
ToolRecord CollectorMap every release from an artist, review edition details, and check collector values across their full catalog. Use `artist_discography`, `release_details`, and `price_guide` to build the complete picture. Claude is particularly useful when you want interpretive context: which releases matter most to collectors, where the rare pressings hide, and how the catalog fits together historically.

Steps
Once connected (see setup above), use the Record Collector tool:
- Name the artist and specify any filters: format (LP, 7", 12"), country, year range, or whether to include compilations and appearances.
- Use `record-collector` to run `artist_discography` for the full catalog, then `release_details` and `price_guide` on the releases that interest you most.
- Ask Claude to highlight the collector-significant releases: original pressings, rare variants, and anything with unusual market value relative to the rest of the catalog.
- Build a want list or purchasing plan from the results, prioritizing the releases that matter most to your collection goals.
Example Prompt
Try this with Claude using the Record Collector tool
Use record-collector to explore the full discography of Alice Coltrane. Run artist_discography to get every release, then use release_details and price_guide on the original Impulse! pressings. Tell me which albums are most valuable to collectors, which pressings to look for, and which are commonly available reissues I can pick up cheaply.
Tips
- Filter by format early if you only collect LPs; including every single and compilation can make the results overwhelming.
- Ask Claude to distinguish between genuinely rare pressings and titles that are merely out of print but not in high demand.
- Use the discography as a living document: revisit it as you acquire titles and update your want list.
