Steps

Once connected (see setup above), use the Excel Tools tool:

  1. Describe the calculation: "Create a sales tracker where the commission column is 10% of the revenue column"
  2. Claude generates the spreadsheet with the formula embedded in the commission cells
  3. Ask: "Add a total row that sums revenue and commission"
  4. Download the file — formulas are live when you open it

Tips

  • Describe the calculation in plain English — Claude translates it to the correct Excel formula
  • Ask Claude to explain the formula it used if you need to modify it later
  • Request named ranges if your spreadsheet will be complex and cross-referencing
