Claude is ideal when contractor verification is part of a broader risk assessment. You can run the checks and get a clear opinion on whether any red flags should affect your decision — not just a raw data dump.

Steps

Once connected (see setup above), use the Construction Manager tool:

  1. Give Claude the contractor's company name, registration number if you have it, and the type of work they are being hired for.
  2. Ask Claude to run `verify_company` via the construction-manager tool.
  3. Have Claude review the results and flag any concerning indicators — recent incorporation, director changes, dissolved related companies.
  4. If you do not yet have a contractor, ask Claude to run `find_local_tradesmen` to find vetted options for the trade you need.
  5. Use Claude's assessment to make a confident hire or avoid a risky one.

Example Prompt

Try this with Claude using the Construction Manager tool
Use construction-manager to verify BuildRight Ltd, company number 12345678, who I am considering hiring for a £40,000 extension. Check their registration status, trading history, and any red flags. Tell me whether there is anything in the data that should give me pause.

Tips

  • Always check the company number, not just the trading name — contractors sometimes operate similar names across multiple entities.
  • Ask Claude to flag recent incorporation dates — a company less than two years old is a higher risk on a large job.
  • Ask for accreditation verification relevant to the work type — gas safe, NICEIC, FMB — not just company registration.
