Night Sky

Claude turns raw sky data into a guided observing session — telling you which objects to start with for your equipment level, explaining what each object looks like and why it's interesting, and recommending the best hour of the evening to observe based on altitude and moonrise time. It makes a night of stargazing feel planned rather than aimless.

Steps

Once connected (see setup above), use the Night Sky tool:

  1. Ask: "What's visible in the night sky tonight from Edinburgh using night-sky?"
  2. Claude returns a list of visible planets, stars, and deep-sky objects with positions
  3. Also ask: "What is the moon phase tonight?"
  4. Request: "Which five objects should I start with using binoculars?"

Example Prompt

Try this with Claude using the Night Sky tool
Tell me what's visible in the night sky tonight from Bristol. I have a pair of 10x50 binoculars. What should I look for, in what order, and where should I point?

Tips

  • Specify your equipment (naked eye, binoculars, telescope aperture) for tailored recommendations
  • Ask about the best observing window — high altitude objects are clearest, low ones are dimmed by atmosphere
  • Request a moon phase update to know if faint objects like galaxies will be visible or washed out
