OpenClaw handles thumbnail refresh at the scale of a full channel audit — regenerating thumbnails for an entire back catalog or a large batch of underperforming videos in one organized pass.

Connect ToolRouter to OpenClaw

1Install the CLI
npm install -g toolrouter-mcp
2Call tools directly from OpenClaw
toolrouter-mcp call web-search search --query "AI tools"
toolrouter-mcp tools

Steps

Once connected (see setup above), use the YouTube Thumbnails tool:

  1. Export the full video list with CTR data from YouTube Studio and define the new thumbnail style guide.
  2. Run generate_thumbnail for all videos below the CTR threshold with the improved style.
  3. Review a sample of new thumbnails before uploading the batch to confirm style consistency.
  4. Upload the full batch and track CTR changes weekly across the catalog.

Example Prompt

Try this with OpenClaw using the YouTube Thumbnails tool
Use youtube-thumbnails to regenerate thumbnails for all 50 videos in my channel with CTR below 3%. Updated style: consistent dark background, bright accent text, one clear central subject. Name each by video ID matching our YouTube export. Return the full batch.

Tips

  • Export video IDs with CTR from YouTube Studio before starting so filenames can be matched on upload.
  • Do not upload all 50 at once — stagger the updates across two weeks so the algorithm treats each as new activity independently.
  • Set a CTR threshold for success before starting — 'did it improve' is not actionable, '3%+ within 2 weeks' is.
