Slack

Claude reads recent Slack messages and produces a summary that focuses on what matters — decisions made, action items assigned, and open questions. It distinguishes between discussion and conclusions so you can catch up quickly without reading every message.

Steps

Once connected (see setup above), use the Slack tool:

  1. Ask: "Read the recent messages in #project-alpha and give me a summary"
  2. Claude retrieves and reads the channel messages
  3. Ask: "What decisions were made? What is still open?"
  4. Claude identifies conclusions vs ongoing discussions from the message history

Example Prompt

Try this with Claude using the Slack tool
Read the last 50 messages in #eng-team and summarise what was discussed, what decisions were made, and what action items are outstanding.

Tips

  • Ask Claude to separate decisions from discussion so you can scan the important parts first
  • Request a list of people who need to follow up on something based on the messages
  • Ask Claude to flag any messages directed at you specifically before summarising the broader channel
