Steps

Once connected (see setup above), use the Jewelry Visualizer tool:

  1. Provide the jewelry photos and context — where each piece came from and any prior knowledge.
  2. Run `identify_piece` and `identify_hallmark` with `jewelry-visualizer` for each item.
  3. Ask ChatGPT to compile the identifications into a structured inventory entry for each piece.
  4. Export the inventory as a collection record with identification confidence noted.

Example Prompt

Try this with ChatGPT using the Jewelry Visualizer tool
Use jewelry-visualizer to identify these 4 pieces from an estate collection. For each, determine the style period, metal content, and any hallmark information. Compile the results as inventory entries with the key findings and confidence level for each identification.

Tips

  • Always note the confidence level alongside each identification — it signals to future buyers or appraisers where certainty ends.
  • Ask ChatGPT to flag any pieces where the identification is ambiguous and list the most plausible alternatives.
  • For estate or probate purposes, ask ChatGPT to write identifications in straightforward language that a non-specialist can read.
