Finance Data

ChatGPT retrieves economic data and turns it into accessible macro briefings. It explains what the numbers mean in practical terms — whether the job market is tightening, whether inflation is running above target, whether housing is cooling — without requiring economics expertise to interpret the output.

Steps

Once connected (see setup above), use the Finance Data tool:

  1. Ask: "What is the current state of the US economy based on key indicators?"
  2. ChatGPT pulls the data and provides a plain-language macro briefing
  3. Ask: "How has inflation trended over the past 6 months?"

Example Prompt

Try this with ChatGPT using the Finance Data tool
Give me a macro briefing on the US economy right now. Pull GDP, CPI, unemployment, and consumer sentiment and explain what the combined picture looks like in plain language.

Tips

  • Ask for a one-paragraph summary first, then drill into specific indicators that matter for your decision
  • ChatGPT can frame indicators in terms of their Fed policy implications — useful context for rate-sensitive decisions
  • Request a comparison between current and prior year levels for each key indicator
