ChatGPT retrieves sentiment indicators and explains them accessibly. It translates a VIX reading into a plain-language risk assessment, explains what consumer sentiment implies for near-term spending, and describes COT positioning in terms anyone can act on — without requiring a derivatives or survey-methodology background.

Steps

Once connected (see setup above), use the Finance Data tool:

  1. Ask: "What is the current VIX level and what does it mean?"
  2. ChatGPT returns the VIX with a plain-language risk interpretation
  3. Ask: "What is the latest consumer sentiment reading and what does it suggest?"

Example Prompt

Try this with ChatGPT using the Finance Data tool
Pull the current VIX level and latest consumer sentiment. Explain both in plain language — is the market fearful or complacent right now, and what are consumers feeling about the economy?

Tips

  • Ask ChatGPT to explain what a specific VIX level has historically meant for market returns
  • Consumer sentiment and retail spending data work well together — ask for both
  • Request a risk environment briefing that combines VIX and sentiment into a single assessment
