Accounts Preparer

Claude walks you through the full filing preparation interactively. It prompts for the documents it needs, flags transactions that look ambiguous, and asks clarifying questions — such as whether a large expense was a capital purchase or a running cost — before generating accounts. The back-and-forth catches classification errors that silent automation misses.

Steps

Once connected (see setup above), use the Accounts Preparer tool:

  1. Tell Claude: "I need to prepare my year-end accounts for the period ending 31 March 2024"
  2. Claude starts a filing and asks you to upload your bank statements and invoices
  3. Claude classifies each transaction and flags anything ambiguous for your input
  4. Ask Claude: "Generate the accounts and show me a summary of income and expenses"

Example Prompt

Try this with Claude using the Accounts Preparer tool
I need to prepare my year-end accounts. I have 12 months of bank statements and a folder of invoices. Start the filing and tell me what to upload first.

Tips

  • Upload a full year of bank statements in one go rather than month by month — Claude handles the date ranges automatically
  • When Claude flags an ambiguous transaction, clarify it immediately rather than skipping — it affects your final figures
  • Ask Claude to show the expense breakdown by category before generating the final accounts so you can spot anything that looks wrong
