How to Track Portfolio Performance with Claude

Claude brings analytical depth to portfolio tracking, fetching current prices for all your positions and calculating total value, allocation weights, and per-position performance. It asks follow-up questions about your target allocation and benchmark to assess whether your portfolio is on track and where rebalancing might be needed.

Steps

Once connected (see setup above), use the Stock Market tool:

  1. Tell Claude your holdings: "I own 100 AAPL, 50 MSFT, 200 NVDA -- get the current value"
  2. Claude fetches quotes for each ticker and calculates your portfolio value
  3. Ask: "Which position had the biggest daily gain?"
  4. Request a breakdown by sector allocation

Example Prompt

Try this with Claude using the Stock Market tool
Track my portfolio: 150 shares AAPL at $175 cost basis, 80 shares MSFT at $380, 50 shares GOOGL at $165. Show current value, daily change, and total gain/loss.

Tips

  • Include your cost basis and Claude will calculate unrealized gains
  • Ask for percentage allocation to see if your portfolio is balanced
  • Run this check daily to build a performance log over time
