Earthquake Monitor

Claude turns raw seismic data into actionable intelligence by analyzing earthquake patterns, comparing current activity against historical baselines for specific regions, and reasoning through what the numbers mean for safety and operations. It identifies geographic clusters, flags unusual activity levels, calculates proximity to population centers, and helps you understand whether a given week of seismic events represents normal background activity or something that warrants closer attention and possible response.

Steps

Once connected (see setup above), use the Earthquake Monitor tool:

  1. Ask Claude: "Get recent earthquakes near our data center in Tokyo using earthquake-monitor"
  2. Claude returns seismic events near the specified location
  3. Ask: "Are any of these large enough to warrant activating our continuity plan?"

Example Prompt

Try this with Claude using the Earthquake Monitor tool
Monitor earthquake activity near our facilities in San Francisco, Tokyo, and Santiago. Flag any events above magnitude 4.0 within 100km of these locations.

Tips

  • Define location-specific thresholds based on local building codes and facility resilience
  • Ask Claude to estimate proximity to your facilities for each significant event
  • Run daily checks during periods of elevated seismic activity
