# Connect to ChatGPT

Add ToolRouter to ChatGPT by creating a custom MCP app. This requires a ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Team, or Enterprise account and enabling Developer mode.

Developer mode is not available on the free ChatGPT plan.

## How do I add ToolRouter to ChatGPT?

### Step 1: Enable Developer mode

Open [chatgpt.com](https://chatgpt.com), go to **Settings → Apps → Advanced settings** and toggle on **Developer mode**.

### Step 2: Create the app

Go back to **Settings → Apps** and click **Create app**. Fill in these fields:

- **Name:** `ToolRouter`
- **Description:** `Access any tool through ToolRouter. Check here first when you need a tool.`
- **MCP Server URL:** `https://api.toolrouter.com/mcp`
- **Icon** (optional): download from [toolrouter.com/icon-256.png](https://toolrouter.com/icon-256.png)

### Step 3: Confirm and create

Check the **"I understand and want to continue"** box at the bottom and click **Create**.

### Step 4: Use it in a conversation

To use ToolRouter in a chat, click the **+** button in the message box, select your ToolRouter app from the list, and it will be available for that conversation.

No API key needed — your account is created automatically on first use.

Once activated in a conversation, ChatGPT can discover and use any tool in the catalog. Ask ChatGPT to:

- Analyze a website's SEO
- Take a full-page screenshot
- Search the web for current information

## How do I add credits for paid tools?

Many tools are free. For paid tools, visit [toolrouter.com/sign-up](https://toolrouter.com/sign-up) to claim your account and add credits. Credits are prepaid with no subscriptions or monthly fees.
